Using the m5602 branch of https://sourceforge.net/projects/m560x-driver/ driver works to some extent:

• Picture is not correct, fuzzy and unsynchronized.
• Display of picture is slow.
• Lighting/coloring can be better.
• xawtv works, cheese does not.

yeah right, on july it worked for me too. well when I say "worked" I should say It was doing something. I use to have a nice green screen, and if I switched all lights off, I had a moving green screen. but since july, it doesn't work anymore (the green screen is now completely frozen, so is SVN tree since months now...)

so my advice is : if somebody tries to sell you a laptop with that piece of s., slap his face, break the laptop and RUN AWAY

Image quite nice under cheese but upside down.

It seems lib4vl could fix the issue of upside down cameras but only on UVC capable ones. I followed this how-to : [1]

lsusb

you will get something like this:

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 002: ID xxxx:yyyy "Your_Webcam_Model"
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Then type:

lsusb -d xxxx:yyyy -v | grep "14 Video"

If you get something like the following, your webcam is UVC capable:

bFunctionClass 14 Video
bInterfaceClass 14 Video
bInterfaceClass 14 Video
bInterfaceClass 14 Video

If your webcam passes this test, you can go on reading. Otherwise, your camera needs to use propertary driver, because it doesn't use standard protocol/command.
